New Augusta Schools Superintendent Prepares for Day 1 on the Job
New leadership is coming to Augusta County Schools. A new superintendent is getting ready for his first day on the job. Ahead of the big day, Dr. Eric Bond sat down with NBC29’s Sean Cudahy.
Tuesday is day one for Bond. He's replacing Chuck Bishop, who resigned earlier this spring and he's taking over a school system that's faced a number of challenges in recent years.
While Bond is new to the superintendent position, he's not new to the building where he'll work and he's certainly not new to Augusta County Schools. He's been in the system for more than a decade, and that's why he says he's ready to hit the ground running
“I know the key players, so I’ve already established relationships in a lot of those areas and with those folks,” said Bond.
Leading a school system has challenges and Bond will face some tough decisions. Funding problems have forced the division to consider cuts and consolidations. The school system closed Ladd Elementary School last spring and considered closing Verona earlier this year.
Bond says he's not sure whether more closures could be in the plans.
“There are always challenges anytime you're dealing with funding scenarios, but our Board of Supervisors have been very supportive over the last several years,” said Bond.
Bond says day one will be mostly meetings and hiring people, including the person who will take his place as assistant superintendent.
