Virginia junior second baseman Branden Cogswell officially signed with the Oakland A's Saturday, while centerfielder Brandon Downes inked his deal with the Kansas City Royals Friday.

The junior outfielder Downes was a seventh round selection of Kansas City.

He was second on the Cavaliers with seven home runs this year, but only hit .241 at the plate, after batting over .300 in his first two seasons at UVa.

Downes was originally drafted by the Red Sox in the 43rd round coming out of high school.

Oakland selected Cogswell in the 7th round of the MLB Draft this year.

Cogswell led the team in hits this season (78), while batting .301 with eleven doubles.

He had .991 fielding percentage, and led the team in assists (210).

The Cavaliers still have six drafted players who remain unsigned, though outfielder/first baseman Mike Papi will reportedly sign with the Indians in Cleveland on Tuesday.

The Tribe drafted Papi in the first round, with the 38th selection overall.

The junior batted .307 with a team leading eleven home runs for Virginia this season.
