Cville Putt-Putt to Host Putter's Association Hall of Fame Classic

Posted: Updated:

There is $10,000 on the line at a tournament in Charlottesville, and it's all riding on a few rounds of mini-golf.

Seventy-two holes, four rounds, and two days of non-stop mini-golf. It's all a part of the Professional Putter's Association Hall of Fame Classic.

Professionals from all over the country will be lining up to win a $10,000 grand prize at the Putt-Putt Fun Center in Charlottesville.

"We'll have pros here from probably 18 or 20 states, so they know each other from playing courses around the county,” said L.F. Wood, Charlottesville Putt-Putt owner.

Succeeding at the Professional Putter's Association Hall of Fame Classic takes focus and determination.

"Every hole is a potential hole in one,” said Gary Hinshaw, state tournament director.

The 55-year-old course can be a challenge to even the most seasoned putter.

"This is a real test up here. This course will be a test of patience for the players that are used to scoring 10, 12 hole-in-ones in a round,” said Hinshaw.

Navigating the bends and obstacles takes calculation.

"Geometry plays a lot in Putt-Putt because you have to have the right angle at the very beginning in order to have the angle to get to the cup,” said Wood.

Players say the lure of the game is what keeps them coming back to tournaments year after year.

"It's the type of thing where if you have a bad tournament, you can't wait for the next tournament that you're going to play in. When you play good, you can't wait to get back out there again,” said Hinshaw.

The Ronald McDonald House will also benefit from certain players' performances as some are being sponsored with donations going to the Charlottesville nonprofit.

The tournament will take place August 2 and 3 at the Putt-Putt Fun Center in Charlottesville.
