Crozet Library Holds "A Girl's Guide to Living Well" Workshop
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va (WVIR) -
Some young ladies in Crozet were able to talk about a variety of issues Tuesday afternoon thanks to a workshop at the new library.
The Crozet branch of the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library held 'A Girl’s Guide to Living Well' workshop for girls ages 10 to 14. The free workshop is part of the national Dove Self-Esteem Fund.
The girls talked about body image, self-esteem, confidence, and mindful eating. The purpose of the workshop is to create relationships between women to build a network of positive support.
The girls' wellness coach, Denise Stewart, says all women need to work less from commiseration, and just listen to each other.
"So instead of saying ‘Oh, I feel fat,’ and someone says ‘Oh, I feel fatter or that I feel fat too’, that you would work from, if someone said they felt a certain way about their bodies that you would say, ‘Well tell me what's going on,'” said Stewart.
Stewart says that response would women build each other up to being happy together and comfortable as a group.
Another "Girls Guide to Living Well" program will be held at the Crozet Library on July 22.
