Final Meeting on Cville Skate Park Held at Carver Rec
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -
A team of consultants is finalizing the conceptual design for a new skate park in Charlottesville, and community members had another chance to give feedback and discuss the plans Tuesday night.
The creators took their vision to the public one last time to make sure they were on the right track with input from earlier meetings. Overall, they believe they are hitting all the marks and only minor changes will need to be made.
Charlottesville and Albemarle County Parks and Recreation held a third and final design workshop at the Carver Recreation Center, where Stantec designers presented renderings for the 30,000-square-foot McIntire Skate Park. The consultants have worked to create hundreds of skate parks around the world, but say Charlottesville has key features for a successful project.
“This is really nice because there's a lot of space. There's natural trees that you can spread out in, nice existing seating opportunities, so the setting is really nice for the project here and you got a lot of space to have a big, regional-size park,” said Kanten Russell, a Stantec project manager.
The skate park is designed to accommodate all skills levels and will incorporate a Jeffersonian feel featuring pillars and brick.
People got to fill out a final pros and cons sheet for the concept. The consultants will now draw up construction documents so the city can then put the project out for bids when a budget is finalized.
