UPDATE: Culpeper Police Department Press Release 6/25/2015:

The Culpeper Police Department has identified the victim from the June 23, 2014 homicide as Carlos Roberto Medina, age 38, who resided in the 700 block of Gardner Street in the Town of Culpeper.

The investigation is still active and on-going at this time.

The Culpeper Police Department is investigating a Homicide that occurred on June 23, 2014.

The Culpeper Police Department responded to the 700 block of Gardner Street in the Town of Culpeper around 2:45am based upon a 9-1-1 call.

Upon arrival, officers observed an unconscious male victim lying in the residence. Culpeper County Emergency Services was called to the scene and pronounced the 38 year old male deceased. The victim suffered from apparent stab wounds to his upper torso.

Based upon the preliminary investigation, a suspect was identified as Humberto Flores De Luna, age 48, of the 700 block of Gardner Street. Mr. De Luna fled the scene prior to police arrival. Officers immediately set up a perimeter and started a search of the Gardner Street area just after arrival on the scene.

The Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office, the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, and the Virginia State Police assisted in these searches utilizing officers and their respective K-9 teams.

Mr. De Luna was later spotted on the 200 block of James Madison Highway at approximately 7:00am and was taken into custody without incident.

On June 23, 2014 approximately 4:30pm, Mr. De Luna was charged with 1st degree murder. He is currently being held in the Culpeper County Jail without bond.

The Culpeper Police Department searched and processed the crime scene based upon a search warrant. This investigation is still on-going.

As of this press release, the next-of-kin of the victim has not yet been contacted, thus we are not prepared to release his name.
