Commonwealth Field Hockey Camp Returns to Central Virginia
The Commonwealth Field Hockey Tournament took place this weekend at UVa
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) -
The Commonwealth Field Hockey Tournament was held Saturday and Sunday at UVa's University Hall Turf Field.
Over 400 players from all over the state arrived in Charlottesville to compete in the event in four different age groups (U-14, U-16, U-19, and adult).
Tournament volunteer Ashley Ballard says "We have people from the beach all the way up to northern Virginia, all the way out to Louisa, Culpepper, Richmond. You name it they're from all over the state."
The commonwealth tournament is offering players and coaches in the area new perspective by joining girls who are normally competitors on the same team.
Charlottesville rising senior Kendall Ballard says, "I think it's great. I think it's helped grow field hockey in this area a lot. We've had a lot more girls coming out for this tournament, and it is so much fun to be playing with the girls I'm typically competing against and get to know them."
The tournament is highly competitive and brings the best field hockey the commonwealth has to offer.
Kendall Ballard says, "It's really nice to get to play against new competition, as well as them being at a high level."
Monticello High School rising senior Sarah Hale says, "You get to see the best players from Virginia come in. People from Virginia Beach, and northern Virginia, they play on travel teams year-round, so coming in you know that these players are the absolute best in Virginia."
