Volunteers Add 100 plants to PVCC Community Garden

Posted: Updated:

People kicked off the summer season at Piedmont Virginia Community College with a big planting effort Saturday morning.

Volunteers showed up to help plant 100 different shrubs and flower plants in the community garden on the school's campus.

The school got a $1,000 grant from the state for the project. The plants came from the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.

Organizers say they're hoping the garden will be a safe and fun place for people and insects.

Event organizer David Lerman said, "We're going to work to create a lot of habitat on the outside which is good because in this garden insects, we need a place for our birds and our bees."
