The former vice president of the Fluvanna County Chamber of Commerce will spend 10 years behind bars for embezzlement.
Brenda van Emmenis, better known by her maiden name Brenda Rigsby, was sentenced Thursday to 165 years with 155 years suspended. Prosecutors say she wrote unauthorized checks for more than $1 million while working at national filter service.
She pleaded guilty back in February to 13 counts of embezzlement and seven counts of money laundering.
Emmenis must also pay more than $850,000 in restitution.
