An educational building that began as an idea 10 years ago will finally be opening its doors this fall in Albemarle County's Darden Towe Park. The new Lewis and Clark Exploratory Center will offer insight about the famous explorers and their life on the trail.
The center has historical exhibits planned, as well as cooking classes about "wild" cuisine.
"When families come they can learn how to use a compass, how to sketch, about animals, art, and science projects, hiking, kayaking. We really have a wide variety of activities,” said Alexandria Searls, exploratory executive director.
The building was made possible in part by an $800,000 grant from the Virginia Department of Transportation. It also features artwork donated in part by LOOK3 in Charlottesville.
