Waynesboro hopes to be the new home of a natural science interpretive facility, but the city needs more money.
The Virginia Museum of Natural History Foundation Board just wrapped up a Kickstarter campaign to raise $25,000 toward hiring a consultant. It came up roughly $7,000 short, but Waynesboro economic development director Greg Hitchin says it's not too late to help out.
"Just the number of folks that responded to the Kickstarter campaign - some with maybe only a dollar and some with more - just indicates to us that there is interest from the community in seeing the museum come here and interest in helping to fund that,” Hitchin said.
The consultant will draw up a master plan of what the museum would look like.
