The U.S. Justice Department is said to be investigating the circumstances surrounding the resignation of state Senator Phillip Puckett.
According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, sources say he resigned after allegedly being offered a job on the state tobacco commission. He's also said to have quit to remove opposition to his daughter receiving a judicial appointment in southwest Virginia.
Sources say the FBI has been conducting interviews with elected officials familiar with the situation.
So far, none of these reports have been confirmed.
