The Poetry Company in Charlottesville wants youth to advocate for a better community through words.
The group is searching for the next great young poet and will host a competition focusing on addressing social change and human rights. Anyone from ages 7 to 18 can enter.
Kadijah Adams, owner of the Poetry Company, says renowned poets, including the late Maya Angelou, used their words to make a difference.
"I want the kids to know that they can take their creative talents, they can use them to make a movement. I often say the term ‘poet revolution.’ That is getting a collective group together and making change. I want the young poets to know you have a voice and we want to hear from you,” Adams said.
You have until July 31 to submit your poem. Top prize wins one $150.
