Papi Delivers Walk-Off Win in World Series Opener

OMAHA, NE (WVIR) - Mike Papi drove in pinch runner Thomas Woodruff with a two out basehit in the bottom of the 9th inning, and the UVa baseball team beat Ole Miss 2-1 in its first game of the College World Series Sunday.

Nate Irving led off the 9th with a walk, and Branden Cogswell moved the pinch runner Woodruff to 2nd with a sac bunt.

Nathan Kirby pitched 7+ innings for the Cavaliers, giving up one run and one hit while striking out four.

Joe McCarthy drove in Nate Irving with a two-out single in the 5th inning, after Kirby and Rebels' pitcher Chris Ellis started the game locked in a pitchers duel.

Virginia moves on to face TCU Tuesday at 8pm.

Ole Miss and Texas play an elimination game Tuesday at 3pm.
