CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -
The Albemarle boys lacrosse team beat Loudoun County 11-10 in overtime to win the state championship for the first time in program history Sunday.

Senior Kevin Bernardino scored the game-winner in OT to give the Patriots the victory in the VHSL 5A Finals at Lake Braddock High School in Burke.

Senior Matt Crist led Albemarle with six goals and one assist.

Head coach David King says, "The game-plan was to get the ball to Matt Crist. The guy delivers time and time again, especially in the playoffs."

Crist adds, "All year long we've been in one and two goal games. I think we have so many guys who know how to win. I think it's just something inside at this point in the season. We have so many guys who wanted it so bad. From February to today, this is what we were working for, and it's amazing."
