LYNCHBURG, Va (WVIR) -
Western Albemarle won its first state title since 1996 Saturday, beating defending champ Blacksburg 7-6 on penalty kicks in the VHSL 3A boys soccer state championship game at Liberty University in Lynchburg.

Forrest White scored the game-winning goal in the sudden death portion of penalty kick's after a scoreless overtime.

The goal was a second chance for the Warriors' senior, who missed a PK in the golden goal portion of overtime, which would have won the game for Western.

White says, "I just know I'll remember this forever. My last memory of high school. It's a great way to end it."

Western Albemarle secured the win thanks in part to two big saves from junior goalie Al Luna during the penalty kick portion of overtime.

"It's just magnificent," says Luna.  "There's no words that can describe the feeling that I had after that."

The match was tied 2-2 after 80 minutes of regulation.

Senior midfielder Michael Nafziger scored both goals for Western.

Nafziger's second goal came during stoppage time at the end of regulation, and tied the match at 2-2.

The state champion Warriors finish the season with a perfect 24-0 record.

Nafziger says, "It's great. 23-1 is forgettable. 24-0?  That's something unreal."

Head coach Paul Rittenhouse adds, "It was a battle to the very, very end. I'm not sure I could have dreamed it up to be this intense. It was an unbelievable high school soccer match."
