CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -

For University of Virginia fans, the College World Series may be the big sporting event of the moment. For the rest of the planet, it's the World Cup.

Soccer games are being played on a global scale and on the biggest TV screen in Charlottesville.

Two-hundred soccer fans packed Charlottesville’s Paramount Theater Friday. The theater broadcast the showdown between Spain and the Netherlands live on the big screen in high definition. The Paramount boasts the largest high-def screen in central Virginia.

The historic theater will show three games a day for the next two and a half weeks - and it won't cost you anything to attend.

Many fans say it beats watching the game anywhere else.

“There is a lot of people. It is very kid-friendly. Kids can come, which would be very different than in a bar so it is really a lot of fun,” said Saskia Santen, a Netherlands fan.

The theater expects over a thousand people for some of the games, including the United States versus Ghana on Monday at 6 p.m.

There are loads of snacks available for sale so you don't have to bring your own.

Free tickets are available at the Paramount's box office.
