Albemarle Pond Open for Father’s Day Weekend Fishing

Posted: Updated:
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va (WVIR) -

For this weekend only, children have the chance to fish in a pond on the Saunders-Monticello Trail in Albemarle County.

The Kemper Park pond has been stocked with fish and will be open for kids under the age of 16 this weekend. Staff members at Monticello say they picked the date to give people a fun family activity to take part in for Father’s Day.

"The idea behind it is to help children and families get outdoors, enjoy the outdoor activities and maybe do something they don't normally have the chance to do,” said Rachel Baum, manager of family programs for Monticello. “This is really special because this is the only time of year that fishing is allowed here at the Saunders Monticello Trail."

Staff members say the lake is full of blue gill, perch, and bass. They ask that you release the fish back into the pond after catching them.
