Wildlife Center of VA to Release Bald Eagle

Posted: Updated:

LANCASTER, Va. (AP) - A bald eagle is returning to the wild following rehabilitation at the Wildlife Center of Virginia.

The Waynesboro center says the adult eagle will be released Friday afternoon at Belle Isle State Park in Lancaster County.

A Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries officer captured the eagle after it was found on the ground in Northampton County on April 23.

The center says the eagle had bruising on its face and on its left wing. It also was dehydrated.

The eagle had been banded at a landfill in Luray, about 180 miles away from where it was found, in 2010 or 2011.
