Street Closure in Harrisonburg for Soap Box Derby

Harrisonburg Police Department Press Release

Harrisonburg, Va. - The Rockingham Rotary Club will host their annual All-American Soap Box Derby this Saturday, June 14, and E. Washington Street will be closed for most of the day.

Starting at 5:00 a.m., the Public Works Department will erect barricades on E. Washington St., from Northfield Ct. to North Main St. Access to E. Washington St., from Commerce Dr., Simms Ave., Myrtle St., and Harris St. will also be blocked.

"Although neighborhood motorists are familiar with the closures and detour without much inconvenience, those not familiar with the event may want to plan accordingly," advises HPD Traffic Sgt Pete Ritchie, Jr. "North Main St. itself will be unaffected, but motorists will want to use Vine St. to access Ralph Sampson Park and neighborhoods at the top of E. Washington St.," Ritchie added.

E. Washington St. will remain closed until approximately 6:00 p.m.

If the event is rained out on Saturday, the derby will be conducted on Sunday and the same street closures will apply.
