Crozet Advisory Council Meets with Planners on Barnes Lumber Project
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va (WVIR) -
People who live in Crozet are working with Albemarle County planners to review redevelopment plans for an old industrial site downtown. The Crozet Community Advisory Council is sending recommendations to Milestone Partners, the developer behind the Barnes Lumber project.
Members of the Crozet Community Advisory Council (CCAC) met with Albemarle County’s lead planner on the project Monday afternoon. Right now, the county is putting together final recommendations to the planning commission.
The CCAC passed along recommendations in response to the developer's latest plans for the 20-acre property next to the square in downtown Crozet. The council is concerned about the new development including too many residential units and not enough space for business growth. Crozet's master plan puts job creation a priority for that property.
Meg Holden, the co-chair of the Crozet Community Advisory Council stated, “We want growth. We want that center to be vibrant and alive and come together. So, how do we make the master plan enhance that opportunity for a developer without giving our plan away?”
The county says the developer plans to start building the residential sections on the east side of the property first. Planners say the development brings up concerns with traffic, stormwater, and water and sewer issues.
