Ed Gillespie at his economic growth tour stop in Albemarle
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va (WVIR) -
Ed Gillespie, the just-nominated U.S. Senate Republican candidate, held a rally at Albemarle Square headquarters in Albemarle County Monday as part of his economic growth tour.
Gillespie won the nomination at the GOP state convention in Roanoke Saturday. He will face Democratic Senator Mark Warner in his bid for re-election in November. Gillespie, a former Republican National Committee chairman, former presidential advisor, and corporate lobbyist beat out three rivals for the nomination.
Gillespie said his prime focus is economic growth. He says Warner has a track record of creating job loss, lower take-home pay and higher healthcare costs.
"All across the commonwealth people are concerned about the direction this country is headed, they are worried about skyrocketing insurance, health insurance premiums and higher energy prices and lower wages," he stated.
He says during his economic growth tour he will focus on providing tax relief and getting rid of obamacare.
Delegate Rob Bell attended Monday's event.
Gillespie's next tour stops Monday are Harrisonburg and Culpeper.
