Crozet Advisory Committee Reviews Plan for Barnes Lumber Property

Posted: Updated:

The group that watches over Crozet's future is working with Albemarle County planners to review proposals for redeveloping the old Barnes Lumber property downtown.

There's been a lot of talk over the last couple years about what should go on that property, businesses and housing have both been mentioned.

Monday the Crozet Community Advisory Council is scheduled to meet with staff from Albemarle County's planning department to discuss the proposal to redevelop the Barnes Lumber site.

Committee members will go over staff reports, ask questions, and try to see if there are any major issues they want to address.

Supervisor Ann Mallek says there's likely to be some housing built on the site, but businesses seem to be the big thing people are pushing for in the town.

“The most important part of this from the citizens perspective is employment, they're really looking for more jobs in Crozet because people are tired of driving all the way to town and so the employment factor's really important,” said Mallek.

Nothing will be set in stone after Sunday’s committee meeting. Mallek calls it a "fact finding" mission.

The council is planning a public hearing about the property next Monday.
