A brand new school is opening this summer near the Hollymead neighborhood in Albemarle County.
The new Albemarle Montessori Children’s Community held an open house Sunday to show off the new space.
It's ready for the school's first incoming class of two to six year olds.
The school features stations where children will learn by doing, using tools like counting beads and textured letters to build reading and writing skills.
Fred Catlin, the school director said, "The program adapts to the needs of each individual child, and the way we do this is we use a bunch of different Montessori materials and the child manipulates the materials and learns the concept from working with those materials."
The new school opens August 1. The director expects the first class to have about 10 students.
The school hopes to grow in the years ahead to accommodate around 30 children.
