Students at Clark Elementary School Gear Up For Summer Reading

Students at Clark Elementary School in Charlottesville are gearing up for summer reading.

The Books on Bikes program sponsored a ride from the school to the central library Saturday.

Students decorated their bikes and pedaled their way downtown to the library. The bookmobile and staff greeted them so they could check out books to get their summer reading started.

"We're worried about our kids sort of doing what's called the summer slide, where they sort of slip in their reading and reading level, and we just want to keep them on track for the next school year, keep them reading all summer long,” said Rebecca Flowers, the Book on Bikes organizer.

This is the second year for the Books on Bikes program.

This year, a kick starter campaign brought in more than $5,000 for some new cargo bikes to make deliveries easier.
