Albemarle Planned Parenthood Keeping Up with New Regulations
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va (WVIR) -
Planned Parenthood in Albemarle County says it is ahead of the curve when it comes to following the new statewide abortion clinic regulations.
Abortion clinics throughout the state are facing an uphill battle after the state passed down stricter rules for those facilities last year. Many of those places have to undergo major renovations, some even filing waivers to try and get around the rules.
Irene Godinez, director of public affairs at Planned Parenthood, says the facility in Albemarle County was in the same boat. It had a number of improvements to make. But, she says, most of those renovations are now done.
“We're still not quite done with all of our renovations. We will be done by the time that our two years are up, which is this coming September, so we will be in full compliance by then,” Godinez said.
She says none of the changes were major but they were expensive, and Planned Parenthood had to raise a lot of money to get them done.
