Virginia-Maryland Sold-Out Super Regional Set to Start Saturday

Posted: Updated:
The NCAA Tournament Super Regional between Virginia and Maryland this weekend is completely sold out.   The best-of-3 series will start Saturday with a noon game.   Game two on Sunday will also start at noon.  Game three, if necessary, is tentatively scheduled to start at 4pm on Monday.

The 'Hoos are playing in their fifth Super Regional in the last six years.    The Terps are in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1971.

Maryland beat Virginia 7-6 in the ACC tournament two weeks ago in the only game between the two teams this year.  Virginia's offense, which had not lived up to expectations this season, exploded this past weekend in the Regional, scoring 10 runs against Bucknell and nine against Arkansas.

UVA Coach Brian O'Connor says, "I had a really good feeling going into this tournament about our offensive ball club. Much was made about it nationally going into the season and maybe we didn't meet expectations from an offensive standpoint, but I was fully confident as the year progressed that it would come together at some point and I really believe that it has. I know a lot will be made out of it that there's two ACC teams with us and Maryland playing each other and them exiting the ACC and all that but we'll address the series with Maryland in the coming days, I really just want to enjoy this regional championship."

2014 NCAA Charlottesville Super Regional Schedule: Saturday (June 7) Game 1 - Noon. Sunday (June 8) Game 2 - Noon. Monday (June 9) - if necessary Game 3 - 4 p.m.
