Charlottesville Murder Victim's Family Speaks Out

Posted: Updated:
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -

One day after a first arrest the family of a man murdered in Charlottesville is speaking out. Antonio Washington’s family members are looking for answers and want the person responsible for his death to be brought to justice.

On May 10, Washington was found dead at a party at the Al Hamraa restaurant in Charlottesville. On Thursday, police arrested 21-year-old Antwan Roberts in connection with Washington’s death. Roberts is facing a charge of principal in the second degree to first-degree murder. Police say he is not responsible for killing Washington, but was present and helped the prime suspect, 19-year-old Taneak Turner, who is still on the run. Turner has been charged with first-degree murder.

Antonio Washington’s family is asking for your help to solve this case. They are also sharing more about what he was like. Washington's sister, Cassandra Seay, says Roberts was the life of the party and had a big heart.

“He was the life of any situation. Big heart, would do anything for anyone," Seay said.

They say this first arrest is a step toward closure. “Just to know that the community is calling in information, getting tips, just helping with this case to move along makes me feel better. The case is not just sitting there; active leads are coming in and action is being taken," she stated.

She says they won't have complete closure until his killer is brought to justice. "All I ask is that you just turn yourself in so my family can have closure. There's a lot of sleepless nights."

She says Washington was trying to turn his life around because he was about to be a father to a little girl this August. "That really hurt me the most. As soon as he's getting ready for that change something happens."

Search warrants are shedding more light into what happened on the night that Washington was murdered. According to the warrants, Washington had a single wound to his chest. The warrants also reveal searches of his car to see if anyone else may have been with him.

Police still want to hear from anyone with information on Taneak Turner's whereabouts. If you have any information on this case you can call Crime Stoppers at 434-977-4000.

Antwan Roberts will appear in Charlottesville General District Court on June 5.
