A man who led Albemarle County police on a car chase Thursday is in custody.
According to police, officers attempted to pull over a black Ford Expedition for a routine traffic violation at around 12:30 p.m. on Route 29 near Greenbrier Drive. The driver, who has been identified as 32-year-old Kevin Key of Charlottesville, decided to flee from the authorities and a chase followed.
Key eventually abandoned his car at Fifth Street and Harris Street in Charlottesville. Police say he left the car in gear, and it rolled into oncoming traffic, hitting one car. The driver of that car was not hurt.
Key ran down Cleveland Avenue on foot, where police were able to take him into custody. He's been charged with felony eluding police, felony hit and run, driving on a suspended license and possession of marijuana.
