Augusta Studies Broadband Options for Neglected Areas
AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va (WVIR) -
Augusta County is experiencing some big gaps in Internet access and county leaders are hoping to change that.
County staff presented some basic information on broadband during a supervisors briefing Tuesday afternoon. The data shows that parts of Augusta like Deerfield, Western Augusta and Middlebrook don't have internet access beyond smart phones.
"This is a major economic issue. It's an educational issue. When I went door to door in my community, that's one of things that many people brought up to me that there wasn't a ready solution to provide Internet to them,” said Augusta County Supervisor Marshall Patty.
Patty says the plan is to start gathering information about broadband in the next couple of months and then take it to the people.
