Afton Man Facing Charges after Shooting on Craigs Store Road

A man is behind bars after an early morning shooting in Albemarle County.
According to Albemarle County police, 21-one-year-old Jacob Boggs of Afton is in custody facing several charges, including "one misdemeanor count of reckless handling of a firearm, one felony count of shooting into an occupied dwelling, one misdemeanor count of resisting arrest and one felony count of assault on a law enforcement officer."

The shooting happened just after midnight on the 1600 block of Craigs Store Road. Police say Boggs and the victim knew each other.

The victim was taken to the hospital and has non-life-threatening injuries.

“When officers arrived at the scene there was a slight struggle with the suspect Jacob Boggs and that resulted in the additional charges of assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest,” said Carter Johnson, spokesperson for Albemarle County police.

Boggs is being held without bond. He will appear in front of a judge on June 12.

Just after midnight on Tuesday, May 27th, officers with the Albemarle County Police Department were notified of a shooting which had just occurred in the 1600 block of Craigs Store Road.

The victim of the shooting was transported away from the scene by a private vehicle and was treated at the University of Virginia Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries. Officers arrived at the scene on Craigs Store Road and a struggle ensued while they attempted to detain the suspect, Jacob Boggs.

Boggs was detained without injury and placed in a patrol car for transport to the Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail. He was later charged with one misdemeanor count of reckless handling of a firearm, one felony count of shooting into an occupied dwelling, one misdemeanor count of resisting arrest and one felony count of assault on a law enforcement officer. He was held without bond and will have a preliminary hearing on June 12th. Jacob Boggs is 21 years old and from Afton.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation. The victim and suspect in this incident were known to each other.
