Families Celebrate Memorial Day at Central VA Parks
Besides the historical and moral significance of Memorial Day, families took time to celebrate the holiday around grills in backyards and parks all across central Virginia.
Many parents and children went to Greenleaf Park to enjoy the day off. People were able to keep cool in the warm weather by splashing around in the park's spray grounds.
One grandfather used the area as a meeting spot to spend the day with his family.
“We just came up here today to meet two of the grandkids. They came down from DC and this is just a halfway point because we're from Appomattox, so it's just a good location. They can play in the park, play in the water and just have a good time,” said Terry Tent, who enjoyed the day at the park.
Memorial Day at the park is a tradition for many families and a nice way to cap off the three-day weekend. People also packed pools in Charlottesville Monday - as it unofficially marks the beginning of the summer season.
