The Virginia baseball team has been named a National Seed in the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in program history.

Head coach Brian O'Connor says, "We've tried to, every year, just be the model of consistency, and give our team a chance to play at this time of the year, and advance on. I'm as proud of that as anything, the consistency this program has lined up with, year in, and year out."Junior closer Nick Howard adds, "We take tremendous pride in what we've accomplished. Sometimes we take it for granted that we're a host, and a National Seed, but I think that's a great accomplishment in itself."

UVa is the #3 seed in the 64-team baseball championship, which begins Friday at Davenport Field.

"I felt that we were certainly deserving of a National Seed," says O'Connor.  "Where you fall as a National Seed, 1-8, I really don't think has a lot to do with anything. It's just the fact that you do get one, and if you're fortunate enough to win on a regional, and they you advance on."

Howard says, "We're just pitching the game. We're just playing against ourselves. We're not too concerned with who our opponents are. They're all great teams, and they've obviously had a great season to get to this point, but we're more concerned with ourselves."

Arkansas, Liberty, and Bucknell join the Cavaliers in the Charlottesville Regional.

Virginia opens the tournament against the Bison Friday at 2pm.
The National Seed means the Wahoos will host the Super Regional round, if they advance through regionals.

The Cavaliers (44-13) were the 5-seed in 2010, top-seed in 2011, and 6-seed in 2013.
