FLUVANNA COUNTY, Va (WVIR) -

The Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail is "teeing up" to give back to the community.

The fifth annual golf tournament benefits People and Congregations Engaged in Ministry (PACEM), and golfers hit the course Thursday afternoon at Lake Monticello in Fluvanna County.

Sixteen teams, plus raffle prizes, will help the regional jail raise more than $4,500 to help fight homelessness in the Charlottesville community - but organizers say you can do even more to help.

“You don't understand these things until you see them firsthand, so definitely the community, I would encourage them to get out and volunteer and see these things first hand,” said ACRJ reentry counselor Olivia Hart.

Fifty percent of the proceeds from the tournament will go directly to PACEM to help support Charlottesville’s homeless population with meals, shelter, and programs.
