Overturned Tractor-Trailer Causes Traffic Delays in Greene
Tractor-trailer overturned in Greene
GREENE COUNTY, Va (WVIR) -
An overturned tanker truck caused traffic backups on Route 609 or Fredericksburg Road in Greene County Thursday.
The accident happened around 4:30 a.m. near the intersection with Dundee Road. The truck was hauling fuel, and while no fuel was spilled, a second truck was brought in to transfer the fuel so the tractor-trailer can be turned upright and removed from the scene.
"Had there been a spillage, we've got a creek down here which in turn we would have had a loss of fuel and it would have turned into the creek and then we would have had a very large incident at that point in time,” said J.W. Sullivan Jr., Virginia State Police master trooper.
The crash has been cleaned up and there are no road closures.
Virginia Department of Transportation Press Release
CULPEPER — Route 609 (Fredericksburg Road) in Greene County is open to traffic after the cleanup of an early-morning truck crash was completed.
The road was closed between Route 29 (Seminole Trail) and Route 619 (Dundee Road) after a tractor-trailer truck hauling diesel fuel overturned about 4:30 a.m. The cargo of diesel fuel did not spill but several thousand gallons of fuel had to be transferred to another tank truck before the vehicle could be righted and removed from the roadway.
