Staunton Middle School to Introduce Beta Learning Academy Next Year
STAUNTON, Va (WVIR) -
Eighth graders in Staunton are being offered a new way to learn next year. Shelburne Middle School is introducing the Beta Learning Academy. Beta stands for build, explore, tinker, and apply.
Half of all eighth graders – a total of 90 children - are taking the class. It's a hands-on integrated approach to science and technology that goes beyond the lab.
“This is going to have kids building, and tinkering, and trying to figure things out, and create projects, building things that will actually use those scientific principles,” said Jennifer Morris, assistant principal at Shelburne.
Morris also says integrated learning really fosters critical thinking.
