Signatures from Charlottesville are heading to Capitol Hill on a petition to raise the minimum wage.

Organizing for Action members rallied on the downtown mall in Charlottesville Monday afternoon. They're calling on lawmakers to support President Barack Obama's plan to increase the federal minimum wage from $7.25 cents an hour to $10.10.

“This would help raise thousands of families in Virginia, millions of families across the country out of poverty and put them on a road to the middle class, which is the message and goal of our country ever since its founders,” said Patty Haling, Organizing for Action chapter lead.

Organizing for Action members fanned out from the Free Speech Wall in downtown Charlottesville with petitions - asking people passing by to send a message to Washington to support the minimum wage increase.
