UVa's Varsity Eight was named the ACC Crew of the Year
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -
The Virginia women's rowing team won the ACC Championship for the fifth year in a row, and the 14th time in fifteen tries.
The Cavaliers swept the event in Clemson, SC, winning all three Varsity Eight races, as well as the Varsity Four race.
UVa's Varsity Eight was named the Crew of the Year, while head coach Kevin Sauer is the ACC Coach of the Year for the fifth year in a row, and the 10th time overall.
Sauer says, "They don't get complacent because of the culture we have in practice every day. If they get complacent, they're done. It's one of those things where they can't sit back, and we talk about that, staying humble and hungry."
Senior Elle Murray adds, "It never gets old. It's a great feeling. Every year coming to ACC's the competition is always different. To have a clean sweep like this, it's just a great feeling, to know all of that hard work throughout the year pays off."
With the victory at the ACC Regatta, the Cavaliers receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament, which begins May 30th in Indianapolis.
