NELSON COUNTY -
Graduation day at Nelson County High School Saturday included a special tribute to murdered student Alexis Murphy.
The 17-year-old vanished August 3, just before the start of her senior year.
Saturday, the school handed Murphy's family the diploma she would have received. Students and faculty showed their support for the Murphy family throughout the commencement ceremony.
"We knew this day was coming, so we were happy to know that, you know the community is behind our family one hundred and ten percent." said Angela Taylor, Alexis Murphys aunt.
The family is in the process of setting up a scholarship program for a Nelson County High School graduate in the name of Alexis Murphy.
They hope to be able to present that scholarship next year.
