The top-ranked Virginia baseball team lost a three-game series for the first time all season, as the Cavaliers fell 4-3 in their regular season finale at Wake Forest Saturday.

The Demon Deacons scored three times in the 6th inning to take a 4-1 lead.

Trailing 4-2 in the 9th, Virginia loaded the bases with two outs.

Thomas Woodruff scored on a fielding error by the second baseman to cut the deficit to one, but Nick Howard struck out to end the game.

Virginia (43-11, 22-8 ACC) hadn't lost a conference series since April of 2013.

UVa finishes in second place behind Miami in the ACC Coastal Division.

The Hurricanes (24-6 ACC) are the top seed in the conference tournament, with Atlantic Division champ Florida State earning the #2 seed.

The Cavaliers are the #3 seed, and are in Pool B with FSU, Maryland, North Carolina, and NC State.

Complete pairings, dates, and times will be released by the ACC Sunday morning.

The tournament begins Tuesday in Greensboro, NC.
