Virginia Department of Transportation Press Release
CULPEPER — Route 20 (Scottsville Road) is reopen to traffic between Route 53 (Thomas Jefferson Parkway) and Route 1150 (Mill Creek Drive) south of Charlottesville. The road was closed yesterday afternoon after a pipe that carries stormwater beneath the road failed and caused damage to the road surface
The Virginia Department of Transportation worked through the night to remove the damaged pipe, replace it with new culvert pipe and repair and resurface the roadway. The Albemarle County Police Department and other emergency response agencies worked with VDOT to manage traffic at the work site and along the detour route.
Twenty-six secondary roads across VDOT’s Culpeper District remain closed this afternoon due to high water. VDOT crews will work through the weekend to assess the roads’ condition as floodwaters recede and reopen the roads when they have been inspected and are safe for traffic.
Real-time road conditions and weather forecasts are available on VDOT’s traffic and travel website,www.511Virginia.org
