UVa and UNC Women's Lax Meet Again in NCAA Quarterfinals
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -
The Virginia women's lacrosse team will take the field in the NCAA Quarterfinals this weekend, when the 6-seed Cavaliers travel to face 3-seed North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
The teams have already played once this season, with UNC beating UVa 14-10 at Klockner Stadium back in early March.
Virginia and North Carolina will play a quarterfinal match at Fetzer Field for the second year in a row.
The Tar Heels ended the Wahoos season 13-9 in this same round last season, before going on to win the programs' first national championship.
UVa senior goalie Liz Colgan says, "I'm pretty excited. I was pretty bummed, in season. No one ever wants to lose to UNC. They're a huge ACC rival, and it would be awesome to finish and take it to the Final Four."
Head coach Julie Myers adds, "It's truly a familiar opponent, and one we're going to have to take our time getting ready for. They've got a lot of stars, and a lot of great players on both ends of the field, and a pretty hot goalie as well."
Junior attack Courtney Swan says, "They're definitely a familiar foe, but I think we're ready to down to Chapel Hill and get a 'W.'"
Virginia will play North Carolina in the quarterfinals in Chapel Hill Saturday at one o'clock.
