Lecture Highlights Historical Importance of Red Brick House
WAYNESBORO, Va (WVIR) -
A lecture at the Gateway Theater in Waynesboro helped shed light on a piece of the town's history Thursday night.
The lecture detailed the history of city's first school house and old Masonic Lodge, the Red Brick House.
Red Brick House, Inc. intends to restore the dilapidated building to its glory days. President Velma Ryan says it's an important step for Waynesboro.
"In the past we have let a lot of houses go for different reasons. I think the town is...it's important to honor their past. And I think this is one of the first steps of starting that process again,” Ryan said.
Right now the effort has $10,000. Ryan says they'll kick off a major fundraising campaign as soon as the property is officially theirs.
