UVa/Wake Forest Game One in Winston-Salem Postponed
UVa is 21-6 in the ACC
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -
Game One of the three-game series between the #1 UVa baseball team and Wake Forest in Wake Forest has been postponed due to rain.
The teams will play a doubleheader Friday, with the first pitched scheduled for two o'clock.
Virginia coach Brian O'Connor will start pitcher Artie Lewicki in Game One.
Lewicki has been tremendous as a weekday starter with a 4-1 record, and a 1.62 ERA.
Rightfielder Joe McCarthy says, "I know for a fact he's excited for the opportunity. He's going to go out and compete like he does every time he's out there and I think its going to be a fun weekend for us."
"We always do this this time of the year and tweak some things," says O'Connor. "It has more to do with how you want to line things up for the ACC tournament and beyond then. This allows us to give Nathan Kirby a full week's rest and it starts to take shape what we want to do the next couple weeks."
Virginia trails Miami by one game in the ACC standings.
McCarthy says, "Right now would be a great time for us to start clicking as a team any thing can happen, we're going to just try to keep try an do what we've been doing the last couple weeks and I feel like we've been playing really good baseball and we're going to try and keep in rolling."
Virginia ace pitcher Nathan Kirby will start Game Two on Friday night.
Last year the Virginia baseball team swept the three-game series in Winston-Salem, but all three of those games were decided by two runs or less.
