UVA Children's Hospital's New Battle Building to Open Next Month
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -
The new Battle Building at University of Virginia Children's Hospital won't be open to the public until next month - but Thursday, NBC29 got a sneak peek inside.
Hospital Chief Operating Officer Bo Cofield says one of the main benefits of the new building is the consolidation of services. Outpatient and primary care physicians will be pulled from the Kluge Center, the West Complex, and the Fontaine Hospital locations.
"Putting all of these services into one location really permits us to have two doctors of different specialties see a young child at the same time and coordinate a plan,” said Cofield.
The new building also features a new operating surgery center in the basement that will increase the patient capacity by about 50 percent.
