ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va (WVIR) -
The Virginia Commonwealth Transportation Board met again Wednesday morning in Albemarle County to go over important decisions for the Route 29 corridor.
The board heard from Deputy Secretary of Transportation Nick Donahue who talked about a new prioritization process going into effect in July that could affect the advisory panel's recommendations. The recommendations include a new intersection at Rio Road and construction on both Berkmar and Hillsdale drives.
Donahue discussed House Bill 2. If the proposed changes given to the board by the advisory panel aren't adopted at the board's next meeting in June, they would fall under this bill. It would put them in a list of other state projects - possibly jeopardizing their funding.
Several people spoke about the importance of adopting the changes for the future of the corridor during public comments portion of the meeting.
That next meeting of the board will be on June 17 in Richmond. They will decide whether to adopt the package of changes given to them by the Route 29 Advisory Panel, or leave them to further discussion.
