Albemarle Police Investigate Crozet Home Invasion

Posted: Updated:

An Albemarle County community is rattled by an armed home invasion targeting a 74-year-old man.

Police are urging people in Crozet to remain vigilant after a pair of robbers burst into that man's home Tuesday night. The victim got out with just a scratch.

He was too shaken up to talk on camera, but his niece is asking for help finding whoever did this and preventing another person from becoming a victim.

Allison Wood's eyes well up with tears when she thinks of the uncle who showed up on her doorstep late Tuesday night.

“He was just visibly shaking. His whole body was shaking. He said he had been robbed,” Wood said.

Wood lives just across Claudia Street from her uncle's home. She recounts his story of what happened when he heard someone banging on his door around 10 p.m.

“He said he went to the door and opened it, and when he did, the black gentleman grabbed him with his arms [crossed] and put a gun to his ribs and pulled him down in the chair and told him if he didn't do what they said, they were going to kill him,” Wood said.

Wood says a woman with that male intruder went to her uncle's bedroom and stole his wallet, cellphone, and glasses. He also grabbed a 12-pack of toilet paper.

“I've lived here my entire life. Now my kids are growing up here and there's a lot of kids in the area. It's just really, really scary,” Wood said.

Wood can't understand why anyone would target her uncle.

“He's always there for everybody. He tries to help everybody out. He's the sweetest man. To see him like that, it broke my heart. He was so scared,” Wood said.

Albemarle County police say they haven't had any other reports of similar crimes in that area. If you have any information to help investigators, call Crime Stoppers at 434-977-4000.
