The University of Virginia’s class of 2014 will pick up their diplomas this weekend.
Crews on the lawn are making final preparations for final exercises. They're painting and landscaping to spruce up the area.
Twenty-one thousand chairs are stacked up right now. They'll seat the more than 6,300 students and their graduation guests.
Many of UVA’s crews are experienced at planning for the big weekend, but they say there's always something that comes up during the set-up.
“It really started last graduation with planning for the aftermath - what we did right, what we could improve on. We try to tweak it and make it a little nicer every year,” said Michael Merriam, UVA associate director for maintenance.
UVA expects 10,000 people for Saturday’s valedictory featuring Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning. Sunday’s final exercises start at 10 a.m.
