CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -
The #6 national seed Virginia women's lacrosse team beat Princeton 13-11 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at Klockner Stadium Sunday.
The Cavaliers jumped out to a 5-1 first half lead against the Tigers, and never trailed during the match.
Junior Courtney Swan says, "We came out really quick. We kinda punched them in the face really quick. Princeton is a team that fights to the end, so we knew this was going to be a tough game."
Head coach Julie Myers adds, "No matter what the score was, our mindset was we were down two. So the whole time we were winning, we kept telling our team, 'We're down two. Fight for everything, like it's the last ball you're ever going to get.'"
Swan led Virginia with four goals and two assists.
Seniors Maddy Keeshan and Liza Blue each had a hat trick.
Virginia will play at #3 seed North Carolina next Saturday.
The Tar Heels ended UVa's season with a 13-9 defeat in the quarterfinals last season.
