UVa Men's Lax Eliminated by Johns Hopkins

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) - The Virginia men's lacrosse team lost 14-8 against Johns Hopkins in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Sunday at Klockner Stadium.

The Cavaliers went into the match as the #8 National Seed, and finish the season with a record of 10-6.

UVa jumped out to a 2-0 lead on the Blue Jays, but Hopkins scored eight unanswered goals to take a commanding lead.

The Wahoos cut the deficit to 9-8 late in the 3rd quarter, but they were shut out in the final period.

Head coach Dom Starsia says, "We didn't make a shot when we needed to, and we couldn't quite get a stop when we had to. These things happen when two good teams go after each other."

Senior defenseman Scott McWilliams adds, "It's obviously disappointing, especially for us seniors, not wanting to end our career this way, but like coach said, we just didn't make enough plays today."

Wells Stanwick scored five goals for Johns Hopkins.

Senior Mark Cockerton had two goals and one assist for UVa, while junior Owen Van Arsdale added one goal and two assists.
